It's how they're playing it and what those particular cues mean to them. So consider that when you hear a really great melody in another song, it's not just the notes they are currently playing like if you write in on a piano roll. These are things I think about when performing on guitar and piano: sustain, attack, EQ, current chord, current key, volume, fine tuning, muting, note, notes I think I can play, notes I think I cant (circa context), and lots more. High pass AND low cut make things sharper and stand out more. High cut AND low pass make things softer and more muted. I'd also reccomend automating your eq and messing around with that. Little rolls and build ups towards accents and decays away from the accents can add a lot of feel and texture. I listened to your music and adding dynamics to your melodies would enhance them a lot. You should try learning an instrument! Maybe keyboard.
